After checking out the sailboats by Beneteau (see this post here), we went to check out the catamarans by the Beneteau subsidiary called Lagoon. Man, were they awesome! This is where I got bitten by Catamarans! As in now Catamarans are my favorite Urban Nomad vehicle. I heard that catamarans have more livable space than mono-hulled sailboats, and it’s true! The reason catamarans have so much space is that you have two hulls. Basically two boats in one. We take a look at the Lagoon 380. It was a nice and very livable boat. One hull had 2 bedrooms and a bath and then the other hull on the other side had a giant master bath and master bedroom. Then between the two holes on the main deck is a nice big open living space. It has a giant kitchen and living room area and then there is another deck behind that area that is half outside with a big open dining area that you could have dinner with people or whatever. Then in the front of the boat is a deck with lots of space on the sides. We are still not done. Above the main deck is an upper deck above where you could entertain more company! Or do whatever. It just has a ton of space.
Catamarans are also known to be very stable in the water compared to regular monohulled boats. This design goes all the way back to Polynesia and India, where it first originated. Think of an outrigger canoe, that’s where the catamaran design evolved from. Cats are easier to sail, they are more sturdy and don’t rock as much.
